My boyfriend died suddenly just before we were about to go on a two month RV trip for which I had had enormous anxiety. The Cormac McCarthy quote about luck came to mind bringing me comfort.
Loved the Marchetti's Constant tidbit. It perfectly explains why remote work didn't collapse commuting time the way people thought it would, we just reallocated that hour to errands or scrolling. I dunno if this applies outside cities tho, small towns seem to have genuinely shorter commute budgets. Also interesting how this pairs with the 'self as verb' concept, our routine movements arnt fixed requirements but just patterns we keep repeting.

Ken Burns has another hit with the American Revolution series. He points out a number of evens and actins for which we should not be overly proud.
Quite the lucky Londoner that [only] commutes half an hour each way lol
