Blade Runner homage/Snappa/Just Read
Fanfic passion:
I backed this cinematic Kickstarter project from Croatia. Two guys have spent years creating their own miniature fanfic version of the Blade Runner world to shoot a short film. Their set is mostly physical models (not much computer FX). With no money, their ingenuity is inspiring, and their obsession to detail and homage to the original is thrilling. I’d like to see them continue. — KK
Read only what you want:
The Just Read chrome extension blocks pop-ups and makes ad-smothered webpages easy on the eyes. You can select and isolate the text you want to read, delete elements, customize styling and print. I've been using it daily. – CD
Web graphic tool:
I wish I'd found Snappa sooner. It's an online tool for creating web and social media graphic tiles from photos or art. You can upload your own images, or use their images. You can go as simple or as wild as you want with the modification options. A basic account is free. — MF
Better than sandpaper:
I've started whittling spoons again and I recently discovered flexible sanding sheets made by 3M. I'll never use sandpaper again. These sheets are made from some kind of semi-stretchy plastic that makes it very easy to get the grit into tight spots (like the hollow of a spoon). They last much longer than sandpaper, too. — MF
Personalized creative gifts:
I wanted to draw a special memory and give it to my husband on our anniversary, but I draw like a kindergartner. So I hired a fiverr artist to create an illustration for print. I provided a rough sketch and described what I wanted and in return I got something better than I imagined and in less than a day. There are so many creative professionals offering very unique, personalized services (songs, comic books, videos, etc.) that fiverr is now my go-to for gift giving. — CD
Best cheap prints:
I use my local Costco to get good photo quality prints from my photo files. They are usually ready to be picked up overnight once uploaded to their website. An 8 x 10 costs $1.79. A huge 20 x 30 inch poster is just $10. The quality is surprisingly decent. — KK
